David Theordoropoulus once said, “Thirty years ago, the greatest threats to nature were chainsaws, bulldozers, and poisons. Now the greatest threats are wild plants and animals.” All that means is wild plants and animals affect more than chainsaws, bulldozers, and poisons. Creating mechanisms stopping their introduction and giving weevils growth hormones are two solutions that will help stop invasive species.
To start off, Invasive species are in about 270 of the 300 lakes in Texas. People are hold classes about the education of invasive species, but people aren’t taking them because they don’t realize what a big problem invasive species really are. So, this solution is not working.
Next, here is one solution that could stop invasive species, and that is to give weevils growth hormones. A positive side to this is that they will eat more giant salvinia. In fact, they have eaten about 8,000 tons in less than a year once before.Another reason is that up to 6,000 are reproduced each year,so that means more to give growth hormones and less of a problem giant salvinia are.
The next solution, is to create mechanisms to stop their introduction on a body of water. If we stop their introduction, it wouldn’t be such a huge problem like it is today. Once invasive species have settled in an area, they are very difficult to get rid of. In fact, they are in about 90% of Texas lakes today, but next month that may be up to 93%.Another reason is that technology has helped solve a lot of the world’s problems. That was another solution that will help stop invasive species.
In conclusion, giving weevils growth hormones and creating mechanisms stopping the introduction of invasive species are two solutions that could really impact the presence of them. Like David Theodoropoulus once said, “Thirty years ago, the greatest threats to nature were chainsaws, bulldozers, and poisons. Now the greatest threats are wild plants and animals.”
